It is wonderful to stay in Ypres.

Visit Ypres gives you great tips and a good dose of inspiration for activities, tourist highlights and events in the city. There are many ways to enjoy and experience. Young and old, there is something for everyone.

Would you like to explore beyond the city limits? This can be done! Ypres is the ideal base to discover the Westhoek. This beautiful region has many hidden gems in store for you.

The Westhoek, nearby

From Ypres, an extensive walking and cycling network leads you along rural roads, hop fields, grass paths, church roads, forests and farmland. An intact piece of Flanders, it seems, but the many British cemeteries remind us of the turbulent past.

Heuvelland

Located a stone's throw from Ypres, between the green landscape of the West Flemish hills and local vineyards, you will find small idyllic villages with cosy brown bars. A nostalgic piece of French Flanders. Cyclists, cycle racers and hikers, everyone will find something to their liking in this large nature reserve.

Poperinge

Known for the cultivation of hops in all its delicious varieties (hop shoots, hop beer, ...), this neighbouring city radiates a calm and popular kindness.

Couleur locale

Enjoy a pleasant break in the Westhoek in one of the many popular cafes. You taste and experience the ‘couleur locale’. A not to be missed stop is the Saint-Sixtus Abbey of West-Vleteren. His world-famous Trappist beer is guaranteed to delight your taste buds.

Can it be a little further?

Do you have a little more time, and can it be a little further? At a 40 minute drive from Ypres you are in Kortrijk, on the Belgian coast or in Lille. Perfect for a day out!

Kortrijk

With the Belfry and the Beguinage, the city is a permanent value on the UNESCO World Heritage List. You can enjoy it on the banks of the Lys or stroll in the parks among the greenery. Shoppers will discover fine local addresses but can also visit the indoor shopping complex K.

The Belgian coast

The wide sandy beach of Koksijde, Nieuwpoort and De Panne invites those who enjoy long beach walks. You can fully enjoy the fresh North Sea air and all the other pleasures of the coast.

Lille

Paris of the North. A university city with undeniably Flemish influences, just across the French border. The small picturesque alleys with unique boutiques and specialty shops in the old town are an ideal match with the modern and green city districts.
